Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of yarn. Very comfortable area to knit. The only reason you did not get a 5 star rating was my wound yarn. You knew it was a mess yet you put it in my bag and said to knit from the outside of the ball. I went home and struggled with re winding it. VERY FRUSTRATING!!
The picture is how the ball looked coming out of the bag.
UPDATE: Darn Knit Anyway contacted me and made it right. A FIVE STAR yarn shop!
My friends and I had an incredible time Knitting the River with Darn Knit Anyway! We visited their shop before and after the cruise and found tons of lovely yarn and other adorable knitting related merchandise. They are well stocked with all the finest yarns and offer two huge walls of knitting needles. When I was there, I bought a kit from Blue Sky Yarns and a single skein of sock yarn from Bien Aimée with Skakel Ewenicorn needles. I can’t wait to go back and visit again!
Incredible yarn shop! This shop is a must if you're a knitter or other fiber artist visiting the area. Their yarn selection is huge: they have so much gorgeous hand-dyed yarn (which I love) plus some commercial yarn as well. They also have a wide variety of cute notions. The space is great and easy to navigate, and there is a cozy attached area where you can drink coffee and sit with your friends and knit ☺️🧶 I absolutely loved this place and I highly recommend!
I absolutely love Darn Knit Anyway! It’s always fun to take a trip to Stillwater to see what’s new. They have a really nice Maker's Lounge now for gathering and crafting together! I haven’t been able to squeeze in a weeknight stop for a while but the DKA customer base is about as friendly as the DKA team (meaning VERY friendly!). Everyone at the shop/lounge space likes to help solve knitting problems or share tips and tricks for better spinning, regardless of whether they are actually a DKA team member. It’s nice to feel so welcome. I like that they have expanded their tools and offerings to include spinning (and fiber prep for spinning) and circular sock machine knitting because it’s nice to have a shop closer than St. Cloud where you can network with other circular sock machine knitters. I really appreciate that Aimee and Carly and the team are fostering a community environment because it can be hard to make new connections as a lot of fiber crafts are typically done at home.
Aimee and Carly and their team have been so kind and supportive and love to hear about project plans and geek out about tools, fiber, notions, bags, and more with you. Their yarn winding service is also pretty speedy if you’re there when the shop isn’t packed. If it’s busy they will offer to wind while you step out to shop or eat and let you pick up the wound yarn later on, which I don’t usually take advantage of but it’s a great way to accommodate crafters that don’t have a swift and winder at home.
DKA has a great selection of their “in-house” patterns and the sample knits are lovely. Inspiration galore at their shop! I also love the email newsletters because they are full of funny stories and photos about what is going on around the shop, as well as the more typical shop updates that include new stock/sales/events. They carry a wide variety of yarn, including some lines that I am very happy to be able to see in person around the Twin Cities (Six and Seven Fiber, Wooldreamers, La Bien Aimee, and so much more). Online shopping is also convenient and has flat rate shipping, which is a bonus if you can’t make the time to stop but absolutely need that new gorgeous yarn!
Really can’t say enough good things about this shop and the people who make the magic happen. I recommend a stop in Stillwater for a visit to Darn Knit and then coffee or lunch nearby. The seasonally-paid parking lot is right next to the shop, and they have recently updated the payment process and fees so that they are more scalable. In the winter, it’s great to have the option to park for free in the lot. If you don’t want to pay parking fees and you’re visiting during the tourist season (I think it’s May-October), there is also a lot of public parking on the street if you don’t mind walking a block or more.
I shop for my wife and each time I visit Darn Knit Anyway, I always have a great experience. They have a great selection of yarn and accessories, and the staff is always extremely helpful, providing excellent customer service. For the last visit, I ordered online for an in-store pickup. The online store works flawlessly, and when I went to pickup the order, it was filled accurately, and the goods were packaged in a heavy, clear-plastic, ziplock bag, which was a nice touch.
Amy, the owner, said they are in the process of expanding the store, to provide a comfortable place for customers to work on projects, among other things. She expects the expansion to be completed by April 1, 2022. My wife is definitely looking forward to this.
I love this shop so much. It's warm and inviting, well stocked with yarn, notions, gifts for yarnies, and stuff you don't know you need. The staff is helpful without being intrusive. Been taking a class to learn to knit better and I just love it. Aimee is great. Also, the new Maker's Lounge space is amazing. Great things are happening here.
It's my happy place. Yarn of all sizes, shapes, colors. Knowledgeable people available to give advice. A whole Maker's Space. Classes. Coffee. Crochet hooks, knitting needles, notions galore!
We came across a problem for my best friends wedding, as we found out just hours before the wedding that 4 of us did not have buttons for our suspenders on our pants. We contacted Darn Knit and they hopped right on the task sewing 6 buttons on for us on 4 separate pairs of pants within an hour to save the day. They were wonderful to work with and got the work done for us so well and so quick. Highly recommend!!
